Cynics don't really belong in a school like ACJC.
I cannot come up with the exact number of times I've rolled my eyes or raised one eyebrow during morning announcements, although I'm going for a number between fifty and a hundred. No one's first thought whenever a student goes up to the podium should ever have to be 'Whatever you're selling, I'm not buying.' If it's about improving entrepreneurial skills for Fun-O-Rama, the very least you could do would be to come up with a way that captures attention for the right reasons; on-stage banter almost never works, nor does grossly mutilating a song to fit in words like 'hamburgers' or 'hot dogs'. Special mention goes to the burger advertisement that earned my first headchair (take back of chair in front of you and apply liberally to the forehead) which involved miming a chicken getting slaughtered, albeit in a disturbing, vexing way (the advertisement, not the headchair). Most other advertisements are just full of narm moments and just makes me want to put my palm through my face, though. Go look narm up on tvtropes.com if you haven't already, then it will become clear.
Also, now I have to write a short essay for my Creative Writing Circle meeting tomorrow afternoon. The title? 'Orientation is Over'. Something tells me that this is going to be a very gratifying experience.
