Am I the only one who finds it ironic that Singapore's Transport Minister doesn't take public transport?
The Institute for Propaganda Analysis has a lovely little list of propaganda techniques and this little one caught my eye: Plain folks. It is defined as a tactic where "the speaker portrays him or herself as an Average Joe, a common person who can understand and empathise with a listener's concerns".
Mm-hmm. Let's all take a step back and look at front-pages of past Homes with pictures of MPs shaking hands with grocers at the wet market, helping to clean up hawker centres and completely embracing the idea of frugality. Oh wait, did I forget to mention that Singapore's politicians are amongst the highest-paid in the world? My bad.
