Passing Out
It came to pass, the renewed trek of flightless
souls across the rooftops. At the foot of the
world we stood side by side and gazed upon
the masses with kaleidoscope eyes, dressed
in a smattering of verdigris mosaic tiles, unable
to speak anymore, our voices thieved away
by nightlights awakening at the turn of day.
We locked our hands together and breathed
deep the gathering dawn and dared words
out of our mouths, but when you finally said
something it was soundless and in my voice
and my words and I heard this: "And so it begins."
